UF/IFAS cautions against over-pruning palms. Ask for a species-appropriate explanation of the proposed work rather than a severe cut sold as guaranteed storm protection.
Confirm this responsibility with the provider and the applicable local authority before work begins. TreeCareMatch does not issue permits or approve removal.
Only if the written estimate includes it. List palm material, branches, wood sections, stump chips and the expected final cleanup separately.

Fort Lauderdale and Broward County generally require a tree removal permit for many trees, and some palms and protected species are regulated. Florida law (s. 163.045) lets residential owners remove a tree without a local permit if a certified arborist or licensed landscape architect documents that it poses an unacceptable risk. Check with the city before work starts.
Remove dead and broken fronds, flowers and fruit, but avoid over-trimming green fronds. "Hurricane cuts" that strip a palm to a few fronds can weaken it. Ask the provider to follow ISA pruning standards.
Have dead limbs, weak forks and branches over the roof checked before storm season. Arrange pruning early, because demand rises once a storm is in the forecast.
Ask for proof of liability and workers' compensation insurance, check any county or city contractor licensing that applies, and ask whether an ISA Certified Arborist will assess the tree.
